Mascots

For the 2007 Canada Games the three Host Territories went above and beyond the call of duty by naming three Northern Huskies to be the official “face” of the Games. Each furry friend has a unique story to tell about their respecitive Territory but all have one similiar message about the importance of the Canada Games. Yúka (Yukon), Taiga (Northwest Territories) and Uqila (Nunavut) have been actively involved in community events for the past 2 years and will be in and around Whitehorse during the 2007Canada Games.

Back

The 2007 Canada Winter Games will host 21 sports(plus snowboarding being introduced as a demonstration sport) and award 1200 medals during the Games. In June 2006, the official medal was unveiled during a press conference in Whitehorse to the delight of the entire Games family. The medal design incorporates the Ulu, a familiar symbol of the North. The medal includes three Ulus, one for each territory, joined in a circle to represent unity. On the blade of each Ulu is a depiction of the official territorial animals: the raven for the Yukon, the polar bear for the Northwest Territories and the Canadian Inuit dog for Nunavut. The raven is placed at the top, soaring above with the Polar Bear and Inuit Dog below, facing each other in friendship. The Canada Games logo will be on the back of the medal, a standard Canada Games element, to celebrate the national athletic achievement.
