CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Notice of Change: Due to the temperature the Race Jury decided today to postpond the scheduled start of the first day of Cross Country Ski competition at Mt. McIntyre. The revised start times are: Men - 10 km Classic 3:00 pm Women - 7.5 km Classic 4:00 pm Awards in the statdiu - 5:00 pm The Race Jury will further review the temperature at 2:00 pm before a final decision is made on the event. Cross Country Canada rules do not permit racing below -20 C.

What to Watch for Tomorrow

Today the teams had their first opportunity to get on the ice today for pre-competition practice. Competition starts tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with Manitoba vs. Yukon, Northwest Territories vs. Saskatchewan and Ontario vs. Prince Edward Island. The second draw goes at 2:00 p.m. with Nova Scotia vs. Newfoundland Labrador, Quebec vs. New Brunswick, British Columbia vs. Alberta, Ontario vs. Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island vs. Saskatchewan and Manitoba vs. Nunavut.

This week there are a number of parents coaching their children at the games. The most famous pairings would be Kathie Gallant, PEI; who has played in a number of Scotties and Canadian mixed championships; coaching her son Brett Gallant and Monica Moriarty (Jones), NS; who is a past Canadian Women's and Mixed Champion and competed in the Canada Games; coaching her son Alex Moriarty. The others are: Yukon - Wade Scoffin (Coach) and Thomas Scoffin (Skip) New Brunswick - Kevin Kyle (Coach) and Alex Kyle (Lead) Alberta - Nancy McInery (Coach) and Joel Peterman (Skip) Saskatchewan - Lyle Muyers (Coach) and Kirk Muyres (Third) Ontario - Graham Sinclair (Coach) and Neil Sinclair (Skip) Nortwest Territories - Maureen Miller (Coach) and Colin Miller (Skip) Quebec - Kim Moskalewski (Coach) and Shawn Moskalewski (Lead)

Tian Terry Zhang from Manitoba defeated Montreals' Pierre-Luc Theriault in a tight 5 set match in Male U15. Zhang won the last set over Theriault 11-6 while having lost the two privous ones 13-11 and 11-8 respectively.

Unrated Saqiqtaq and Niptanatiak from Nunavut defeated Nova-Scotia's Jollimore and Mccaffrey in the ladies U15 doubles. A very intense win for Nunavut going into a tigtht 5 set winning the fourth and fifth match 12-10.

Next Competition

Team Quebec will meet Team Alberta in Round 4 at 17h30. Danny Chang AB will meet Pierre-Luc Theriault in the male U15. Hannah Li AB will meet Marie-Andree Levesque from QC in the U18 female singles

Team Ontario will meet Team BC in Round 4 at 17h30. Tony Liu and Andre Ho, both U15 male athletes will meet Michael Zhang and Terrence Leung respectively in the singles. Both matches are bound to be very interesting and intense games.
