Welcome to the 2007 Canada Winter Games!

The Canada Games are the largest national multi-sport event for young athletes and for the first time in their proud 40 year history, they are being held north of the 60th parallel. With over 3400 athletes, coaches and managers descending on Northern soil between February 23rd – March 10th, it’s going to be an exciting time in Canadian sports history. Records will be set, dreams will be realized and a lifetime of memories will be made.

The road to Whitehorse began in 1987 when Yukon first stated its interest in hosting a Canada Winter Games. In 1989, they were added to the Canada Games hosting rotation cycle and in 2001, Whitehorse submitted a bid to host the 2007 Games. When the Canada Games Evaluation Committee visited the city they were impressed by the sites and the level of commitment shown by the bid committee, the territorial and federal government, and the citizens of Whitehorse. In 2002, Whitehorse was officially named the host of the 2007 Canada Winter Games.

The 2007 Canada Games Host Society has worked tirelessly with all community and government partners since being established. Together they are ready to show Canadians from coast to coast the meaning of northern hospitality. Having state-of-the-art facilities, Canada’s next generation of national, international, and Olympicathletes will compete in some of the best arenas and sport centers in Canada. These will surely be a memorable Games for everyone involved. We are very proud to continue to Inspire Dreams and Build Champions in Canadian sport.
