The philosophy of the National Artists Program is to “bring together bright and talented young artists from each province and territory and challenge them to use the games as the inspiration for their art”.
At every Canada Games three participants from each province and territory between the ages of 18 and 22 years of age are featured during the two weeks of the Games. Each artist represents one of the following four disciplines: dance, music, theatre arts, or visual arts. Participants travel on the chartered airplanes as part of their respective provincial/territorial team. The Host Society arranges all meals, accommodations and local transportation for the participating artists for the two-week duration of the Games.
The emerging artists participate individually as well as collectively within their respective disciplines as well as by interacting with the other artistic disciplines in response to their experiences at the Games. Preparation may be required by the emerging artists in advance of attending the Games.
At the Games, participation is both informal and formal. There are informal forums for friendly exchange and formal presentations of a talent showcase at the end of the Games.
