Four Quebec Communities Confirm Intent to Bid for 2013 Canada Summer Games
(April 1, 2008) Ottawa - The Canada Games Council (CGC) has received four letters of Intent to Bid from Quebec communities to host the 2013 Canada Summer Games.
The Communities that have confirmed their intent to bid by the deadline include the City of Sept-Îles, the City of Laval, the City of Sherbrooke and the entire Laurentian community (which for the bid includes the host city of Blainville, and partner cities, notably Mont-Tremblant, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Lachute, Wentworth-Nord, Val-Morin and the Regional County Municipality of Deux-Montagnes).
After the official launch of the 2013 Bid Process in January of 2008, interested communities had until March 28th to submit their letter of Intent to Bid.
“The Canada Games Council is excited to reach this important milestone and confident that competitive bids will now result from the four communities,” says Larry Smith, Chairman of the Canada Games Council. “The official bid communities will now rally and continue on a 15 month process to select the host of the 2013 Canada Games.”
The bid process will now enter into a Technical Review Phase where information must be provided by the communities by May 30, 2008. After the technical phase, up to three short listed bid communities will then be given until November 14th 2008 to submit their Bid Proposal to the Canada Games Bid Evaluation Committee who will review and score based on the bid material and a site visit in each community.
The Canada Games Council’s Bid Evaluation Committee will be responsible for a detailed review of bidding communities and making a recommendation on the award of the Games to the Council’s Board of Directors. The final recommendation from the Canada Games Board of Directors will be delivered to the Province of Quebec and then announced publicly on April 30, 2009.
