The Canada Games Sport Caravan has been at every Canada Games since 1973. The most comprehensive tour occurred prior to the Canada Summer Games in Brandon Manitoba. The Canada Games Caravan consisted of two mobile units; one traveled to Western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan) and the other to Central and Eastern Canada (Atlantic provinces, Quebec and Ontario). In all, the tour traveled to 18 Canadian cities.

The tour culminated in the coming together of two units at the 1997 Canada Summer Games in Brandon Manitoba, in August, 1997. The Caravan had a budget of $560,000 made up of support from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Young Canada Works and Sport Canada programs, the Canada Games Council, the Canada Information Office, and various private sector sponsors. The Caravan was exposed to over 2 million visitors from May to August.

At the 2001 Canada Summer Games, the caravan stayed primarily in the London area for the duration of the two weeks of the Games. The Caravan was exposed to approximately 10, 000 visitors during these two weeks.

At the most recent Canada Winter Games, the Caravan toured over a dozen cities in Atlantic Canada and was exposed to over 50, 000 visitors from November to February.

The Canada Games Sport Caravan has also attended various other special events between games. Some of the more prominent events that the Caravan has been at in recent years include the Pan American Games, the North American Indigenous Games and various Canada Games Day celebrations in the Ottawa area.
