A few days into the Canada Games and some competitions are already in their final stretch and the games are getting intense. This is usually the time when questions start racing through your mind. “What is ending soon?” “What sport have I missed?” “How in the heck am I going to catch it all?” With the end of week one nearing, here are a few questions to consider before you start your day...
1. Do you feel the need for speed?
Here comes the big show in Track and Field: The 100m Men’s and Women’s final! As well as the 400m, 1500m, 400m Hurdles, Wheelchair Para (400m, 1500m), and the always fun to watch 4x100m Relay. Today’s a no-brainer to head out to University of Manitoba Stadium. Get your tickets here. Photo: Keith Levit.
2. Is your love for the beautiful game limitless?
If it is, you’ll definitely want to catch the final games of Women’s Soccer. Yes, it’s true, the final games are today. Where is the time going?! The Bronze Medal game begins at 4:00 p.m. and Gold/Silver starts at 7:00 p.m. Both are at Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex. Get your tickets here.
3. Is the water calling your name?
After the heat we’ve had this week, just the thought of being near water is enough to refresh one’s spirit. Thursday brings watersports to the surface. Diving (last day!!), Rowing (Kenora), Sailing (Gimli) and Triathlon (Birds Hill Park) are all on the day’s agenda. You might want to add it to yours. Photo: Monika Cloutier.
4. Who do you root, root, root for at the ol’ ballgame?
What a week of Baseball! We’ve seen games move venues just to accommodate all the fans. Love that. Later today, the Semi-Finals begin at Shaw Park. Watch Team Alberta take on Team Manitoba at 4:00 p.m. and Team Saskatchewan take on either Team Ontario or Team British Columbia at 7:00 p.m. Get your tickets here. Photo: Darryl Gershman.
And in case you don’t know, Shaw Park is a hop, skip and a jump away from our Festival at The Forks.
5. Do you know about the Gentle Island?
That’s Prince Edward Island and it might be a small landmass, but it packs a big musical and cultural punch. On the Festival main stage tonight, you’ll listen to JP Hoe, Paper Lions, Rose Cousins, The East Pointers and Jenn Grant before ending with a big ol’ fireworks show. Photo: Matt Duboff.
