Bell MTS Place will host the 2017 Canada Summer Games Opening Ceremony on Friday July 28, 2017. Winnipeg’s premier indoor event venue, the arena is the home of the National Hockey League’s Winnipeg Jets and the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose. Since its opening in November 2004, the centre has hosted thousands of events including concerts, sporting events, family shows, festivals, trade-shows, award shows, and receptions. The centre is a featured location in the SHED (Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District) in Downtown Winnipeg.
A multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility, the arena seats approximately 15,000 people for a hockey game and up to 17,000 concert-goers. Bell MTS Place forms a portion of the Downtown skywalk system along Portage Avenue between Donald and Hargrave Streets and along Hargrave between Portage and Graham Avenues. Bell MTS Place is connected on three sides to the skywalk; on the Northeast to the Somerset Building; on the Northwest to the Newport Building, and on the South to Cityplace mall. The arena is home to four convenient dining options and a number of portable food kiosks.
With approximately 30,000 parking stalls in downtown Winnipeg there is an abundance of options for parking when you visit the arena. Although the number of available stalls fluctuates, there are approximately 7,000 stalls within a five-minute walk of the arena and more than 13,000 within a ten-minute walk.
