I'm a professional volleyball player, now living in The Netherlands. I also play for Team Canada's indoor volleyball team. Recently, I came out as the first active openly gay male national athlete from Canada.
What was your most memorable Canada Games experience?
I had a lot of fun playing in the games rooms with my teammates. There was a room with a Wii console and we all competed against each other pretty frequently.
Who’s your hero? What's your favourite quote?
Roger Federer. A quote that I try to live by is "Swing for Hands".
What role has sport played in your life since the Canada Games?
Sport has gotten me through some tough times. I struggled a lot with my sexuality and volleyball gave me a place to be free and myself with my best friends.
What advice do you have for athletes who will participate in the 2017 Canada Summer Games?
Enjoy the experience. Canada Games is about more than just competing in your sport. Of course, put in your full effort on the field, but there's a lot of other stuff going on where you can meet new people and have a good time.
