The Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay is designed to carry the excitement of the Games to different locations around Manitoba. The torch followed a unique journey starting with the official lighting ceremony in Ottawa on June 6, 2017 and then traveled to 10 communities around the province, as well as to Kenora, Ontario.
This year’s relay started on June 23, 2017 in Steinbach and continued through Kenora, Morden, Gillam/Fox Lake Cree Nation, Thompson, The Pas/Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Dauphin, Gimli, Sagkeeng/Great Falls and Brandon.
The final leg of the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay will take place on July 26 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. We hope Winnipeggers will come down and cheer on the 67+ torchbearers who will carry the Canada Games’ Roly McLenahan Torch through the streets of central Winnipeg!
The relay starts at Memorial Park at 9:30 am – with “Dancing” Gabe Langlois running the first leg - and will follow a route down Broadway, alongside St. Mary’s Avenue, all the way up Taché Avenue, through The Forks, by Portage & Main, along Waterfront, right through City Hall, passes by the Cube in Old Market Square to Central Park, makes their way to the Manitoba Legislative Building and around to get back to 360 Portage Ave. at the Manitoba Hydro Building.
We're looking for enthusiastic and positive Winnipeggers to cheer on our torchbearers as they make their way along the route. See below for a list of Cheerleading locations along the route of the Manitoba Hydro Torch Relay!
