Open water swimming competitions are from Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Birds Hill Provincial Park. Click here to see detailed open water swimming schedule. Entry to open water swimming competition is free courtesy of Manitoba's Credit Unions. No ticket is required but spectators will still require a Provincial Parks Pass, or pay the daily entry fee of $5 at the gate.
The International Olympic Committee introduced the 10km Open Water event for the 2008 Olympics. The 10km event was first added to the Canada Games program one year later in Prince Edward Island. Swimming Canada reviewed the event and moved to a 5km event for the 2013 Canada Games in Sherbrooke.
The 2017 Canada Summer Games open water swimming competition will take place at Birds Hill Provincial Park where athletes will compete in a 5km course.
