The new Sargent Park Beach Volleyball Centre will host the beach volleyball competitions at the 2017 Canada Summer Games. 125 truckloads of high quality sand were brought in to build the playing area at the new beach volleyball facility, which is located inside the Susan Auch speed skating oval. During next summer’s Games, 2,000 temporary seats will be brought in and placed at the venue.
The new facility will allow for two competition courts and four practice courts to be set up for the event that will feature one male and one female team per province/territory. Following the Games, the space will accommodate 10 permanent courts.
The Sargent Park Beach Volleyball Centre will help developing athletes in Manitoba reach their fullest potential as well as enhance the province’s capacity to host national and international competitions.
This legacy project is funded in part by the Government of Canada, the Government of Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg.
