2019 Games Opening and Closing Ceremony line-ups announced
(Red Deer, Alberta) - Announced today, the 2019 Canada Winter Games and Patrick Roberge Productions unveiled the line-up for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2019 Games. Featuring musical stars, athletes, performers, dignitaries and a national television audience coming together, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies celebrate our moment and the athletes of the 2019 Games.
“The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are an opportunity to kick off and close the 2019 Games with the gusto that central Alberta is known for,” said Lyn Radford, 2019 Games Board Chair. “We’re very proud of the programming we’ve put together in collaboration with our Ceremonies Producer, Patrick Roberge Productions.”
“Over 600 performers have been rehearsing and preparing and they are ready to welcome Canada,” said Patrick Roberge, President and Creative Director, Patrick Roberge Productions. “They have all been working very hard and are ready to show off Red Deer and Alberta.”
The Opening Ceremony of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer celebrates moments. Dynamic, memorable moments are weaved into a variety show that not only welcomes the athletes, but also celebrates the community. Each segment of the show captures a moment that celebrates the values of the 2019 Canada Winter Games. Notable performers include: Franco Albertan singer Mireille Moquin and award-winning country artist Brett Kissel. During the Opening Ceremony, the Roly McLenahan Canada Games torch is carried into the Centrium by the final torchbearers to light the Canada Games Cauldron and officially start the Games. These final torchbearers are revealed during the show and mark the end of the first-ever national MNP Canada Games Torch Relay.
The Closing Ceremony of the 2019 Canada Winter Games is a celebration of the athletes. This is a bold, unique show, setting a new standard for the Canada Games Closing Ceremony. The Canada Games uphold a longstanding tradition of welcoming, cultivating and showcasing athleticism and team spirit in Canada’s youth. This high-energy show is packed with inspirational moments, grand musical performances and athlete interaction. With performances from Scott Helman, Gord Bamford, local singer Kayla Williams and Franco Albertan, Paul Cournoyer, the athletes are given a spectacular send-off from Red Deer, motivating young athletes across the country to celebrate the amazing legacy of sport in Canada.
