The Canada Games Council is searching for a leader who is passionate about Canadian sport, athletes, and developing the next generation of Canadian leaders as their new President and CEO

The Canada Games Council (CGC) is the franchise holder for the Canada Games, responsible for the management of the Canada Games and the development of the Canada Games Movement. Held once every two years,alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Canadian athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province and the Yukon Territory at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada’s Centennial in 1967, and are proud of their contribution to Canada’s sport development system in addition to their lasting legacy of sport facilities, community pride, citizen engagement and national unity. As the Games move from one host community to the next, the CGC provides the continuity, leadership and support to Host Societies in key areas through CGC’s Transfer of Knowledge Program. The CGC also ensures effective long-term partnerships with national sport organizations, Federal-Provincial/Territorial governments, the corporate sector, broadcasters and the media.

Passionate about an enterprise that is focused on athletes, coaches and sports, and which drives economic development and employment opportunities, the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) provides the leadership to guide the successful execution of the Canada Games Council (CGC) mission, vision and mandate. As the leader of the organization, the President / CEO is responsible for cultivating a robust, professional and effective organization that will serve as a role model within the Canadian sports community.

Located in Ottawa, Ontario and reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chair, the President / CEO must be a highly accomplished senior leader able to assume overall responsibility for the operation and administration of the Canada Games Council’s business. In addition, the President / CEO is responsible for ensuring that effective and beneficial long-term partnerships are created and maintained with numerous key stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, Host Societies, three levels of government partners and funders, sponsors, media, national and provincial sport organizations, and the corporate sector.

As an inspiring, results-oriented senior leader, you are excited by the opportunity to lead the Canada Games Council into the next phase of its business evolution and growth, building on two recent successful Canada Games.The President / CEO will help continue to raise the profile so the Canada Games Council will be able to impact thousands more youth and Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

As President / CEO, you will ensure an open, transparent and constructive working relationship with the volunteer Board and staff. The President / CEO is responsible for the effective development and management of CGC’s programs and operations, while exercising stewardship over its human and financial resources. Further, you will serve as the chief advocate and spokesperson for CGC and as such represent the organization nationally.

You are a proven inclusive leader with a minimum of 5 years of senior management experience, preferably within the sport system at the provincial, national and / or international level, with the ability to lead a complex matrixed organization. Your experience in skillfully stewarding numerous projects at various stages of development is essential, as is the ability to move easily from strategic leadership to operational and project delivery mode.
