Basketball tipped off as a demonstration sport at the 1904 Summer Olympics before becoming an official sport at the 1936 Games in Berlin.
The sport has been a part of the Canada Games since the inaugural Games in Quebec City in 1967. Initially part of the winter program, basketball moved to the summer edition in 1989 and has been a featured sport in every summer Games since then.
With notable Canada Games alumni like Steve Nash, Bridget Carleton and Anthony Bennett, basketball is a sport on the rise in Canada and the next generation of Canadians continue to make their mark on the court.
