Prince Edward Island 2023

Legacy story

For two weeks in 2023, we were all Islanders.

In 2023, Prince Edward Island hosted the Canada Winter Games to celebrate Canada’s top athletic talent and showcase PEI’s spirited culture from “tip to tip.” The Games took place over 16 days, beginning on February 18 and closing with an iconic “Party on the Dock” themed ceremony on March 5, 2023.

The 29th edition of the Canada Games was the largest event hosted in the Island’s history. PEI welcomed 3,600 participants, 5,000 volunteers, and thousands of fans over a two-week period, showcasing an exceptional commitment to its renowned Island hospitality. The Games featured 20 sports and over 150 events, including the historic debuts of Karate, Mixed Doubles Curling, and Women’s Boxing, as well as the spectacular 14-day IllumiNATION Festival.

The Canada Games legacy will live on across the Island for generations to come. The opening of the Eliyahu Wellness Center at Canada Games Place is now home to PEI’s only Olympic-sized ice surface. This state-of-the-art facility will be open to the public, inspiring healthy living and high performance training in the Province for years to come.
