The Board of Directors for the 2025 Canada Games Host Society in St. John’s has appointed Karen Sherriffs as Chief Executive Officer. Sherriffs will take on the role effective early 2022.
“Karen has been attending Canada Games in various roles for Newfoundland and Labrador since 1999. Her experience is unsurpassed in all aspects of the preparation and participation of Team NL. We are confident that Karen’s experience and leadership is exactly what is required in order to ensure the success of Canada Games 2025,” said Kim Keating, Co-Chair of the 2025 Host Society Board of Directors.
Karen’s introduction to the Canada Games began 23 years ago in 1998, when she worked in the Sport Division with the Host Society for the 1999 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, NL. Since 1999, Karen has participated in six additional Canada Games for the province.
Her extensive involvement with Canada Games includes Team Newfoundland and Labrador Mission Staff and appointments by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador as Assistant Chef de Mission and Chef de Mission.

2007 Canada Winter Games, Whitehorse, Yukon – Mission Staff for Gymnastics
Karen led the bid process for the City of St. John’s over the last two years leading up to the awarding of the Games in April 2021. As well, Karen has had a 21-year career with the City of St. John’s. She has held several positions in the Recreation Division of the Community Services Department, including the last 10 years in a management role where she has gained valuable experience and has honed her leadership skills.
The Canada Games will take place in August 2025 in St. John’s and surrounding areas.
