2025 Canada Games Win National Awards

The Canada Games Council (CGC) is thrilled to share that Sport Tourism Canada has honoured the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games with two national awards: the Marquee Sport Event of the Year and the Event Legacy of the Year.

CGC President and CEO Kelly-Ann Paul and a contingent of the 2025 Host Society, led by CEO Karen Sherriffs and Co-Chair Kim Keating, were in Mississauga at the PRESTIGE Awards Gala.

“For the Canada Games to be recognized among so many worthy events from across Canada, it speaks to the incredible impact our Games can have in Host Communities,” Paul said. “To all of the 2025 Host Society staff and volunteers, and all of our government, corporate, and sport partners: you should feel proud of your work and collaboration. You have been recognized among your peers in sport event hosting for a job well done.”

The St. John’s 2025 Canada Games took place last August in the capital region of Newfoundland and Labrador, within the City of St. John’s and its neighbouring municipalities.

“Our Games were tested by fires, by an Air Canada strike, and by extreme weather, and I’m so proud of everything we accomplished and overcame, together,” Sherriffs said. “Without our staff, and our incredible volunteers, none of this would have been possible. The legacy that the 2025 Canada Games will leave in our community is truly the result of an amazing team effort.”

The Marquee Sport Event of the Year recognizes the overall success of an outstanding Canadian or international single-sport, multi-sport or collegiate marquee sport event held in Canada, with a budget over $10M.

Meanwhile, the Sport Event Legacy of the Year Award honours the remarkable achievements or contributions of individuals, companies or organizations in creating sport, economic, and social legacies for a community, while also demonstrating environmental stewardship, within a sport event held in Canada.
