Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council (CGC) Chairman, has announced that David Patterson will become the organization’s next President and CEO. The CGC Board of Directors unanimously approved the recommendation made by the selection committee following a comprehensive process that took a number of highly qualified candidates into consideration.

“David’s exceptional leadership skills and extensive background in sport will undoubtedly benefit the Canada Games Council,” says Quinn. “We very much look forward to having him lead our team as we prepare for next summer’s 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.”

David brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the CGC along with a strong knowledge of the organization.

“Since 1967, the Canada Games have made an indelible mark on Canadian sport and on Canadian communities,” says Patterson. “I am honoured to have the chance to work with the key partners in the movement, an incredible staff team and a dedicated Board to help build on the 50 year legacy of  the Canada Games as a premium property that inspires dreams and builds champions.”

A recognized leader in Canadian sport, David holds a doctorate in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa, a master’s degree Recreation Administration from Sacramento State University and a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary.

He worked as a consultant for the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) on the National Sport Federation Enhancement Initiative where he helped implement 115 projects to enhance business functions and to increase the capacity of Canada’s National Sport Federations. David also held the role of CEO for Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada from 2012 to 2014 as well as Executive Director of Ringette Canada from 2004 to 2012.
