Hayley Wickenheiser is synonymous with greatness in hockey in Canada.
She quickly became a household name due to her talent on the ice that earned her a spot on the national team at age 15, but while she continues shattering barriers as a professional hockey executive and as a physician, her incredible story continues.
“The Canada Games were my first start in elite sport at the age of 12 – training, competing, and winning gold there laid the foundation for my career.”
Hayley Wickenheiser competed in hockey for Team Alberta at the 1991 Canada Winter Games on PEI. From there, she became a 6x Olympian (five times in hockey and once in softball), a 4x Olympic Champion, and the face of women’s hockey.
From competing for Team Alberta at the Canada Games in 1991, to topping the podium at the Olympics and World Championships an unbelievable eleven times – we’re thrilled to welcome Hayley Wickenheiser into the Canada Games Hall of Honour in the Athlete Category.
