Patrick Jarvis Joins the CGC Board

Patrick Jarvis brings experience both as a Paralympian and as a highly-regarded national and international leader in sport.

He has served on numerous boards, Games organizing committees, and missions across multiple sport organizations, including as President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

“I am particularly excited to join the CGC Board as it's coming home, so to speak, closer to the formative stages of high-performance sport,” Jarvis said. “This enthusiasm stems from my passion for the positive power of sport, its ability to shape individuals and communities.”

The wealth of experience Jarvis brings to the Canada Games Council spans professional and volunteer roles with National Sport Organizations, Multisport Services Organizations, and major Games – including a seat on the Board for the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee.

“For more than 40 years, I've had the privilege of serving sport organizations at the board level, and this opportunity allows me to bring the lessons learned to help work with the Board to build on its legacy and shape future goals,” Jarvis said. “I am eager to contribute, learn, grow and support others in fulfilling the CGC mission.”

His service to sport has been recognized far and wide. In 2010, Jarvis was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada (C.M.) for his dedication to the transformation of the Canadian Paralympic movement. Subsequently, in 2018 he received the Paralympic Order from the international Paralympic committee for his outstanding contributions to sport, and in 2024 was named the Calgary Booster Club's "Sportsperson of the Year."

As Jarvis joins the CGC and anticipates attending the 2027 Canada Games in Quebec City, his mind is also on the long-term impact of his contributions to the Canada Games Movement.

“It is my hope that, at the end of my term, the Canada Games are even more representative of the Canadian reality, a truly inclusive event that reflects the true nature of the Canadian demographic,” Jarvis said. “Also, that they are more fully embraced by the population at large, unifying the nation through a true celebration of what sport should and can be, including developing future leaders.”
