Promoting a Circular Economy with Computers for Schools Plus

At the Canada Games Council (CGC), we believe that the Canada Games Movement should inspire a legacy of sustainability in addition to athletic excellence. Guided by our Sustainability Strategy, we are committed to advancing initiatives within the pillars of energy and climate, circularity and waste, and natural regeneration.

Our partnership with Computers for Success Canada (CFSC) on behalf of the Government of Canada’s Computers for Schools Program (CFS+) is a clear example of how collaboration helps us to achieve these goals. Our multi-Games partnership ensures that CFSC and the CFS+ provincial affiliates will provide refurbished technology to support Canada Games Host Societies in 2027, 2029, and 2031, as well as the CGC.

By extending the life of computers and equipment, we are reducing electronic waste, lowering emissions tied to manufacturing, and advancing the principles of the circular economy.

This partnership has already proven its value at the St. John’s 2025 Canada Games. Through the leadership of Computers for Schools NL, more than 500 pieces of refurbished equipment, including laptops, desktops, monitors, and cell phones, were supplied to the Host Society. This contribution reduced the need for new electronics as well as equipped the Games with the reliable tools that are essential to staging the largest amateur multi-sport event in the country.

The Canada Games will continue working with CFSC and the corresponding local chapters of CFS+ for at least the next three editions of the Games, through 2031. Together, we will build on the achievements of the 2025 Games, driving innovation, reducing our environmental impact, and promoting lasting legacies that are rooted in sustainability.

We believe the Canada Games can be a catalyst for climate action, demonstrating sustainable practices and inspiring others in sport to follow. Together with our partners, we are building a legacy that goes beyond competition – one that makes a meaningful difference for the environment and the sports we love.
