A CELEBRATION OF YOUTH, SPORT, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY

The Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games Host Society is pleased to announce an open call to artists. The Medal Design Program welcomes visual artists from Niagara Region and Ontario to submit their qualifications to be selected to create the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games medals.

The medal design commission is an opportunity for artists to express their creativity and gain local and national exposure.

The Canada Games medals are a reflection of the culture and spirit of the Canada Games, a memorable life-time keepsake and a celebration of the athletic achievement of successful competitors.

Artists over the age of 18 are encouraged to present a minimum of 3 pieces of original art along with a 250-word maximum submission detailing their artistic experience, their connection to Niagara and how their vision or concept for the medals aligns with the spirit of the Canada Games. Applicants are NOT asked to create original artwork at this time. Only semi-finalist will be invited to present their medal design.

The email message can link to an online portfolio or include a minimum of 3 attachments.

All submissions must be received by Thursday February 7th, 2020 at midnight to be considered.

The Medal Design Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on written submissions and on the esthetic quality of the original artwork presented. Five semi-finalists will be selected to develop medal concepts. Qualifying finalists will be notified by February 28th, 2020.

Each semi-finalist will be invited to present their medal design and will receive a $500 honorarium.

With the collaboration of metal provider, Teck Resources, three artists will be selected to develop prototypes for final selection. The winning design will be announced by June 30, 2020. The finalist will receive a $2,000 honorarium for their medal design.
